Do you remember when you first came to Christ? Do you remember how you wanted to know him more to know everything about him? Do you remember how you felt and how you just wanted to be in his presence? What happened? You went to church every Sunday, you attended Sunday school, you attended small group, you tithed, but still you lost your first love. I know your church leaders don’t want you to feel that way, and they probably don’t want you to know that they feel that way as well. The problem has taken several hundred years to slowly develop, so it doesn’t even look like a problem.
I know your deeds, your hard work and your perseverance. I know that you cannot tolerate wicked people, that you have tested those who claim to be apostles but are not, and have found them false. You have persevered and have endured hardships for my name, and have not grown weary.
Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first. Consider how far you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first. If you do not repent, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place. (Revelation 2:3-6 NIV)
