I’ve written several times about how to say no, but I want to address why you should say no. I know good opportunities are out there for entrepreneurs. For that matter good opportunities are out there for every one. The problem with good opportunities is, they aren’t great opportunities. If you can learn to say no to good opportunities you will have more great opportunities than you know what to do with.
I know how the story goes; you don’t want to offend anyone, you don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings. Look at it this way if you learn to say no first, you can always go back and say yes later.
- The first and best reason is that you’re too busy. If you have a lot of different opportunities you’re trying to work right now one more opportunity is not going to make life easier. When I was a kid we had a place where we would fish called the “Honey Hole.” the problem with the “Honey Hole” was it was too easy to catch fish. After a long day of walking and carrying fish we still had a clean them when we got home. Many times we would throw good fish away because we were so tired we couldn’t clean them. If you’re too busy, you don’t need to take on more opportunities
- The opportunity doesn’t fit you. As a leader you’d need to know what you’re about. If you can’t sell you don’t need to join a Network Marketing business. I understand that we all want to make money quickly. But you need to learn some skills before you quit your job, because you think you’re going to get rich by starting a business. If an opportunity doesn’t fit you, you need to say no.
- You haven’t it checked it out. This by far is my favorite reason not to do something. If you haven’t researched it, you don’t need to do it. I got into a business when I was 24 years old that I did not understand. That year my family lived on $4000. By the grace of God we made it through that year but I swore then and there that I would never do something I didn’t understand.
I don’t want to be the who is always saying no, but I want you to think about what you’re doing. People who are happy don’t go around sticking their finger in every piece of pie they find. They find the right opportunity that fits them and research it and they’d do it correctly.
